How 84 Undersized Bolts Blew Out a Windscreen at 17,000 Feet

About this video

How can bolts that are almost the right size let a windscreen blow out mid-flight? On British Airways flight 5390, 84 of 90 windscreen bolts were about 0.026 inch too thin, and because the windscreen was fitted from the outside, cabin pressure pushed it against those bolts alone. This is the mechanism behind the 10 June 1990 incident, and why everyone survived.
